NAGKAISA lauds extended maternity enactment!

by Atty. Sonny Matula, President FFW
Manila, Philippines — Nagkaisa lauds the approval of a Congressional bicameral conference panel of the 105-day paid maternity leave for female workers both in government and private sectors.
The Federation of Free Workers (FFW) and other trade unions under NAGKAISA welcome the said measure of both chambers (Senate Bill No. 1305 and House Bill No. 4113) as it also recognizes that taking care of a child is not the sole responsibility of the mother.
The proposed consolidated version of legislation grants seven days out of the 105 days maternity leave could be allocated for paternal leave, while an additional 15 days of paid leave may be availed by solo mothers. The approved bill almost double the existing benefit under the Social Security System (SSS) which is laudable and in accordance with existing International Labor Organization (ILO) and ASEAN standards.
Nagkaisa labor coalition chairperson Atty. Sonny Matula and FFW President said the approval is a manifestation of a society that cares. CPM
