NABET-CWA protecting members vs NBC contracting!

MANILA, Philippines — The National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians-Communications Workers of America (NABET-CWA) conducted a two-day protest action against the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) based in Chicago due to a contract violation.

Dan Moreno, an official from the CWA said the protest is a show of forced and dismayed over the action of NBC towards the NABET local 41 unions by providing technical and production training to non-union members whom the organization believe is in violation of their contract.

“NBC is training them to operate cameras, editing, writing and other production jobs that belong to our members. This is bad practice on their part and doesn’t go well with us at NABET/CWA,” Moreno said.

NABET-CWA, Local 41 is a sector of the Communications Workers of America. It is a National Union Organization that strives to provide members with a sense of pride and dignity in the workplace while maintaining quality work conditions and fair wages.

Local 41 members include Technical Employees, Producers, Writers and Couriers employed by ABC, NBC, FOX, TELEMUNDO, UNIVISION, as well as production and crewing companies throughout the Midwest and Texas.

NABET-CWA sees the NBC’s move as an attempt to prepare the company for any possible strike or lock down that might be taken by the organization.

“We are not afraid and will not stand for this nonsense. They don’t scare us they only anger us more and with determination and Solidarity, we will continue to combat them by mobilizing our forces and making our point clear,” Moreno added. CPM
