COKE-FEMSA to terminate at least 600 employees!
MANILA, Philippines — Workers and Union members of Ilagan sales union stage a protest action in front of COKE FEMSA after the management decided to terminate almost half of its employees!
Union members and officers said the displacement of more or less 600 employees was part of the COKE FEMSA management grand plan of eliminating the organize union by means of massive redundancy program and their new commercial business model.
Union officers claimed that the action of the COKE FEMSA Management is in violation not only of their union rights but also of their labor rights under the Philippine Labor Code.
“It is very clear that the selection process of the management is harassment and has the intention of busting the union. No consultation… No discussion within the union and it is very clear the selection process of the management is biased and without due process.”
FEMSA is a leading company that participates in the beverage industry through Coca-Cola FEMSA, the largest franchise bottler of Coca-Cola products in the world; and in the beer industry, through its ownership of the second largest equity stake in Heineken, one of the world’s leading brewers with operations in over 70 countries.
Union official said at least 3 local Union President and 18 union leaders are among the casualties of the termination program of COKE FEMSA that will take effects on March 2, 2018. CPM
