Hotel unions gearing up?
MANILA, Philippines — The National Union of Workers in Hotel Restaurant and Allied Industry (NUWHRAIN) recently concluded a three (3) day Basic Political Education (POLED) training attended by 20 union officers from NUWHRAIN Philippine Plaza Chapter (NUWHRAIN-PPC).
Marlon Tibay, education officer of NUWHRAIN-PPC told CPM that the purpose of the POLED was to update union leaders of the current political trend and how it would affect Filipino working class especially the organized labor movement.
It also aims at gaining a deeper understanding of the contemporary political spectrum and structure together with the key figures influencing its dynamics so that they could create a more responsive action.
Tibay adds the POLED training will reorient and enhance the leaders in the hotel industry in handling the complex political arena and will help them form some basis for evaluating the fast-changing political climate in the country.
Tibay concluded that all the inputs and learnings gained from the training will be cascaded down to the grassroots level and eventually come up with organizational positions to issues and policies when the need arises.
The POLED was conducted by the Labor Education and Research Network (LEARN) at Villa Lorenzana, Pililia Rizal last 13 – 15 June 2017. The resource persons are as follows: John Mape, Luis Garcia and CJ Castillo of LEARN, Arcy Garcia, Joshua Mata and Hansley Juliano of SENTRO. CPM
